The Olympic final in 10,000 metres in Antwerp 1920. Nurmi in fourth place behind James Wilson of Great Britain, Joseph Guillemot of France and Augusto Maccario of Italy.

Nurmi crossing the finish line in world record time of 3:52.6 in 1,500 metres at the Eläintarha track in Helsinki, 19 June 1924. Only 45 minutes later he will make another world record, 14:28.2 in 5,000 metres.

On his American tour of 1925 Paavo Nurmi got to rub shoulders with Hollywood stars, in this case with Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford.


In July 1926 Nurmi raced twice against Edvin Wide in Stockholm, first in one mile, then in 3,000 metres. He won both races and broke his own world record in the latter. In the picture Nurmi and Wide preparing for the race.
